The 10th edition of the biggest domestic Twenty20 (T20) league of the world, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 is all set to get underway from April 5, 2017. The BCCI and the IPL Governing Council, earlier this week, announced the month and half long schedule of the 10th edition of the league. The opening match will be played between the defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and powerhouse Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Rajiv Gandhi International stadium in Hyderabad. SRH, being the defending champions, will also play host to the final of this edition on May 21, and will also host both, the opening and closing ceremonies as well. The tournament is once again scheduled to have a total of eight franchise teams. The same format will be followed as in the previous editions, where each team plays every team at least twice on the home and away leg format. A total of 56 league matches would be played, while four play-off matches would be played, including the final. The top four teams from the league stage qualify for the play-offs stage. The matches will be played across 10 venues in the country in Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Indore, Kanpur, Kolkata, Mohali, Mumbai, Pune and Rajkot. However, before all the action kicks off, the franchises have one last task in hand, and that is to prepare a full strength side to compete in the competition. Therefore, they would be participating in the IPL Auction 2017, which is slated to be held in Bengaluru on February 20. The franchises will have a war of money and would play the bidding fight to grab the best players for their side.
Although more than half of the side is ready for most of the franchises, a few of the players were released by them, based on certain circumstances. They would now buy a few fresh players, who fit in their side, and would eventually complete the side, as well as make it eligible to compete in the tournament. Around 800 players are all set to go under the hammer during the IPL 2017 Auction.
