While Mumbai Indians (MI) are one of the most successful franchises in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL), the team is also known for their innovative ideas to delight their fans turning up for the home matches at the Wankhede Stadium. MI, along with Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) and Mumbai Venue Operations team have planned a special arrangement for those specially abled cricket enthusiasts who wish to watch the action live at Mumbai s home ground. They show an appreciable gesture as they find out the most easily accessible area for them in the ground, extending a helping hand towards them. According to a report by mid-day, the seats from L-024 to L-048 at front row, ground level of the Vijay Merchant Stand of the ground have been removed for the ones with crutches and on wheelchairs. The ones accompanying them will find seats in the row behind. The washrooms in the ground level have also been dedicated specially for them. All the fans need to do is indicate it while buying tickets online or manually. “This part of the stadium is easily accessible by wheelchairs and it is not very far from the main gate, so we decided to ear mark this area for the physically challenged fans. There hasn’t been much demand for these seats. There was just one disabled fan in the last match,” revealed MCA Joint Secretary Dr PV Shetty. MI recently accommodated 18,000 underprivileged children during their match against Gujarat Lions (GL) as a part of their Education For All programme. 414 BEST and private buses and over 2,000 volunteers were engaged to make the plan a success. The students were also provided food boxes, water and other beverages while medical assist was arranged at the ground as well.
