Suresh Raina on Friday became the first player in Indian Premier League (IPL) to feature in 150 matches, during the clash between Gujarat Lions (GL) against Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS). Raina is also the highest run-scorer in the tournament, with 4,171 runs at 33.91 inclusive of a hundred and 29 half-centuries. He, however, is a handy all-rounder. Raina has taken 24 wickets maintaining an economy under 8. In addition, Raina is one of the finest fielders India have ever produced. In his 150th match, he took his 83rd catch. Standing at second-slip, Raina took a one-handed blinder, to his left, to dismiss Ajinkya Rahane. Captain of Gujarat Lions (GL) started his IPL career with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the inaugural edition of IPL. Raina had also captained for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in three matches, in the absence of MS Dhoni in 2010. In the same season, Raina churned out 520 runs, also becoming the top run-getter in IPL by surpassing Adam Gilchrist. He was also awarded best fielder for taking stunning catches. He scored a vital half-century in the final against Mumbai Indians (MI), taking Chennai Super Kings to their maiden title.

After his 3-year contract ended, Chennai Super Kings retained him along with Dhoni, Albie Morkel, and Murali Vijay. All the same, despite being the highest run-scorer, Raina has never won the Orange Cap. Raina has been a part of an IPL-winning twice, and will leave no stone unturned to give GL their maiden IPL win in the last edition.
