In Match 18 of VIVO IPL 2018, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) posted 191 after being asked to bat by Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at Eden Gardens. At 136 for 3, KKR looked to go for a 200-plus score, but Andrew Tye and his knuckle-balls restricted KKR to 20-30 runs less than what they would have wanted to. Chris Lynn dazzled with a 41-ball 74. He received support from Robin Uthappa (34) and Dinesh Karthik (43). With KXIP boasting of Chris Gayle, Mayank Agarwal, KL Rahul and Aaron Finch, a stiff competition is on cards.

Ashwin broke the trend of beginning the innings with spinner and handed the new ball to Ankit Rajpoot. Rajpoot conceded 5 in his first over He started off with 5 in his first over but was carted around in his latter overs. Mujeeb Zadran answered Ashwin s call once again by denying Sunil Narine from getting away to a start with a googly. From there, it was over to Lynn and Uthappa took control.

Lynn reached fifty in 30 balls, and added a few milestones en route of 500 IPL runs and 3,000 in overall T20. Uthappa looked his destructive best as he took Mujeeb for a hat-trick of fours in the 4th over. Lynn and Uthappa s partnership sailed KKR to 50 at the end of the Powerplay overs. Then Ashwin had Uthappa caught at mid-wicket, while Nitish Rana was run out.

Lynn looked unperturbed despite the fall of wickets. He punished every bowler who was coming his way dispatching all sorts of deliveries to the boundary. He looked en route the third hundred of this IPL but missed an attempted slog to give Tye his only wicket. Karthik took over the momentum. He looked in sublime touch, and attacked Ashwin with back-to-back fours.

There was no respite for KXIP even after Lynn fell. Karthik and Shubman Gill continued to hammer the pacers. KKR looked to finish on a high note until the captain was caught comfortably by Tye for 43.
