Mumbai Indians (MI) retained Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya ahead of VIVO IPL 2018 auction. Such has been Bumrah’s growth and success that his franchise didn’t look beyond him before heading into the bidding war. In addition, Bumrah is the spearhead of Mumbai’s current bowling attack for the current edition. Their leader with the ball has reached to a personal milestone during match 14 of IPL 2018 between MI and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Bumrah becomes the 45th bowler in the tournament’s history to claim 50 wickets.

About match

In the ongoing MI vs RCB clash, Bumrah removed Chris Woakes in defence of 213. Woakes tried to cut over short thirdman and ended up playing the slower ball to the fielder. Bumrah struck another wicket off his final ball of third over, dismissing Umesh Yadav.

Author’s take

Bumrah has been a force to reckon with in the shorter formats. His rise became evident with consistent performances for state team, Gujarat, and made it to the international stage courtesy his unorthodox bowling action and toe-crunching yorkers. At present, Bumrah has extended his armoury with many variations: knuckle ball, off cutters, slower bouncers etc. In this way, he continues to keep the batsmen guessing in the shorter formats, and remains an asset for Team India and MI.
