Sunday saw two blockbuster VIVO IPL 2018 double-headers. One saw Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) slumping despite Virat Kohli’s fireworks while the other match saw Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lose their first game of 2018 IPL in the hands of Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) despite MS Dhoni‘s power-packed show. Two stalwarts of Indian cricket produced an entertaining show for M. Chinnaswamy and IS Bindra Stadium respectively. Kohli went on to slam his fastest T20 fifty (26 deliveries) while Dhoni registered his highest T20 score (45-ball 79*), also his best score in IPL of course.

Dhoni’s previous best score was an unbeaten 40-ball 70 that came against RCB in 2011. Chasing a challenging 198, CSK were in spot of bother when they were tottering at 113 for 4. Dhoni came and conquered. He slammed as many as 6 fours and 5 sixes. He, especially, shifted gears in the death overs, giving CSK glimmer of hope to win their fourth game on the trot.

And he achieved all this despite a back spasm. CSK needed 67 to win from the final 4 overs. Despite limping every now and then, he unleashed several lusty blows. CSK ultimately lost the game by mere 4 runs. But Dhoni proved, class is permanent.
