Siddarth Kaul and Sandeep Sharma bowled brilliantly for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) taking 2 wickets respectively. From the Mumbai Indians (MI) camp, Mayank Markande got 4 wickets, while Mustafizur Rahman got a 3-wicket haul. But none had the impact of Rashid Khan. The Afghan leggie bowled 18 dot balls, equalling Ravichandran Ashwin (twice) and Amit Mishra’s record of most dot balls in a IPL match to finish with 4-0-13-1, helping SRH win a thriller by 1 wicket in the Match 7 of VIVO IPL 2018.

Rashid was awarded the Man of the Match award and he revealed that dot balls were a part of his plans.

“Dot balls is crucial in such a short format. That was the plan to bowl as many dot balls as possible. That was the message from the management to go and enjoy yourself, that’s what I did. I just try my best to bowl in good length area and mix it up for the batsman. As he’s in his stance, I can see where he’s trying to hit,” said Rashid.

On asked, whether he prefers the traditional leg-spin or the googly, Rashid answered that he loves to bowl both.

‘Except sport nothing else gives joy back home’

The 19-year-old made a big statement as he spoke about his war-torn country, Afghanistan. He said, “Except sport there is nothing much that gives more joy back home. Me, (Mohammad) Nabi, and Mujeeb (Zadran) are here and hoping to give them happiness.”

Rashid dedicated the award to a friend’s son who is hospitalised, and he mentioned that the entire amount of INR 1,00,000 will go to the child.

“I want to dedicate this to my friend’s son who is in hospital. Everything will go to him,” he signed off.
