Rajasthan Royals got off the mark in VIVO IPL 2018 by beating Delhi Daredevils in a rain-marred affair at Jaipur last evening. This was Royals’ seventh straight victory versus Daredevils, and they also maintained their strong hold at home. Sanju Samson, Man of the Match, won accolades for his 22-ball 37, including two fours and sixes. His strike rate, 168.18, provided Rajasthan the much-need impetus after losing D’Arcy Short early. Samson gave space to skipper Ajinkya Rahane to get into his groove, and ensured the run-rate over 8.5.

The highlight of Samson’s innings was hitting straight, and finding the middle of the blade time and again. In addition, Samson’s bat speed was glaring to watch. He went after Trent Boult right after taking stance. The right-hander attacked Shahbaz Nadeem, before eventually missing out on a slog-sweep to negate Nadeem’s spin and get bowled out for 37. As a result of Samson’s blitz, Jos Buttler propelled the innings to 153 for 5 in 17.5 overs. The match was later on reduced to a 6-over affair; wherein Delhi required 71. They eventually lost the match by 10 runs (DLS method).

Did You Know: Samson was also the Man of the Match for Daredevils vs (Rahane-led) Rising Pune Supergiant on April 11, 2017? History surely repeats itself in ironical ways…
