Manish Pandey, in 2009, became the first Indian to score a hundred in IPL. Now an Indian cricketer, he was a part of Virat Kohli’s victorious Under-19 side in 2008. Pandey is a familiar name in the IPL, having played for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Pune Warriors India (PWI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He scored a match-winning knock for KKR in the 2014 final, handing them their second trophy. Four years on, he has been bagged by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and for a whopping INR 11 crore. As the price soared, Pandey got more anxious.

In an interview with, Pandey revealed, “It was a nervous moment. It was around 6 am in South Africa where I was preparing for the ODI series. I called home on Facetime and tried to get news from there. I was then watching it and as the prices went higher, my BP also swayed a little bit.”

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), too, were aggressively bidding for the Karnataka batsman, who was not expecting such a huge amount.

“Was not expecting INR 11 crore. It’s a long process of hard work and reward for previous shows. It will add extra pressure no doubt,” Pandey added.

‘Emotional to leave KKR’

After spending four years with KKR, Pandey is emotional on leaving the Knightriders’ den.
