Game 43 of IPL 2019 pits together two struggling teams, Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals, at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata today.

With two wins in their last five matches, Rajasthan have fallen to last on the IPL 2019 points table while hosts KKR are at sixth, but have lost five games in a row.

Kolkata’s spin trio of Piyush Chawla, Kuldeep Yadav and Sunil Narine has not been able to make an impact. Kuldeep was dropped for their last match against Sunrisers Hyderabad which they lost by nine wickets. Except for Andre Russell, the other batsmen have been inconsistent. Barring their demolition of RR when these two teams last met, three of KKR’s four victories have come due to the brilliance of Russell. Had it not been for his explosive batting, they would not have enjoyed a strong start early in the season.

For RR, skipper Steve Smith has struck consecutive fifties since and Ajinka Rahane s own form has undergone a turnaround as he struck a century in a six-wicket defeat to Delhi Capitals. Rajasthan are soon to be hit by return of Smith, Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer, so time is running out.

In 20 matches between these two teams, KKR have won ten and and RR nine. One match was washed out.

KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS LIKELY XI: 1 Chris Lynn, 2 Sunil Narine, 3 Shubman Gill, 4 Nitish Rana, 5 Rinku Singh, 6 Andre Russell, 7 Dinesh Karthik (capt/wk), 8 Piyush Chawla, 9 Kuldeep Yadav, 10 Harry Gurney, 11 Yarra Prithviraj/Prasidh Krishna

RAJASTHAN ROYALS LIKELY XI: 1 Ajinkya Rahane, 2 Sanju Samson (wk), 3 Steven Smith (capt), 4 Ben Stokes, 5 Riyan Parag, 6 Liam Livingstone, 7 Stuart Binny, 8 Shreyas Gopal, 9 Jofra Archer, 10 Jaydev Unadkat, 11 Dhawal Kulkarni

This match between two flagging teams will boil down the bowling, and having been taken apart in the last few matches it is KKR who have more worries. Too reliant on Andre Russell, they need more from Chris Lynn, Sunil Narine, Robin Uthappa and Dinesh Karthik.

If Rajasthan bat first, expect Sanju Samson, Ajinkya Rahane and Steve Smith to cash in.
