Chennai Super Kings are already assured of a playoff spot and for them the only incentive to win against Kings XI Punjab is the pole position.

They lost heavily against Mumbai Indians which impacted their net run-rate dip considerably and with just one game left in the league stage, the defending champions need a win to cement their position at the top. Currently on 18 points, a win will give them 20 points.

A win for KXIP would mean they will avoid the wooden spoon, finishing with 12 points and at seventh spot, ahead of Royal Challengers Bangalore.

TEAM NEWS:

KINGS XI PUNJAB

Andrew Tye returned expensive figures of 1 for 41, which might pave the way for Hardus Viljoen to return into the XI.

Likely XI: 1 Chris Gayle, 2 KL Rahul, 3 Mayank Agarwal, 4 Nicholas Pooran (wk), 5 Mandeep Singh, 6 Sam Curran, 7 R Ashwin (capt), 8 Andrew Tye, 9 Mohammed Shami, 10 Murugan Ashwin, 11 Arshdeep Singh

CHENNAI SUPER KINGS

For CSK, it may not be a bad idea to rest captain MS Dhoni before the high-octane Playoff games commence. But the fact that CSK have not won a game in which Dhoni hasn’t played this season, might force the team management reconsider the call. Mitchell Santner has been effective in all the four games he’s played this season and CSK might give him another go.

Likely XI: 1 Shane Watson, 2 Faf du Plessis, 3 Suresh Raina, 4 Kedar Jadhav, 5 MS Dhoni (capt/wk), 6 Ambati Rayudu, 7 Ravindra Jadeja, 8 Dwayne Bravo, 9 Deepak Chahar, 10 Harbhajan Singh, 11 Imran Tahir
