Kings XI Punjab captain Ravichandran Ashwin has been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during their IPL 2019 match against Delhi Capitals on Saturday night.

Ashwin’s KXIP have been found to have violated the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences and since this is their first such offense of the ongoing season, the offspinner has been fined INR 12 lakh.

Ashwin is not the first captain to have been penalised for over-rates this season. Before him, Rohit Sharma (Mumbai Indians), Virat Kohli (Royal Challengers Bangalore) and Ajinkya Rahane (Rajasthan Royals) have also incurred same punishment for the over-rate violation.

Captain Shreyas Iyer‘s 58* off 49 balls and senior pro Shikhar Dhawan‘s 56 off 41 balls helped DC break the rut of losing matches at home with a nervy run-chase at the Feroz Shah Kotla against KXIP.

With a five-wicket win chasing down 164, Delhi consolidated their third spot in the points tally and claimed their second victory at home in five outings. KXIP did well to post an above par total, thanks to Chris Gayle‘s 37-ball 69; but their bowlers, despite having three front line spinners in the attack, failed to create any real opportunity.

KXIP are at the fourth spot in the points tally and next meet Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 24 in Bengaluru.
