Lucknow Super Giants maintained a low profile during the 2024 Indian Premier League auction, opting to retain the majority of their core players and making only minor adjustments to their squad. Their focus was primarily on securing local talent like Shivam Mavi, while also incorporating other players into the team. Now, we analyze the important statistics of LSG’s pace bowling unit as they prepare for the upcoming 2024 season.

Composition of LSG’s Pace Bowling Lineup

With the departure of Avesh Khan to Rajasthan Royals and Mark Wood’s unavailability, Lucknow Super Giants find themselves with a relatively inexperienced pace attack. Naveen-ul-Haq is tasked with leading the pace department, with support coming from uncapped Indian bowlers Yash Thakur and Mohsin Khan. Additionally, the team has enlisted Shamar Joseph from the West Indies as a replacement for Wood. Alongside them, the pace-bowling all-rounders include Shivam Mavi, Marcus Stoinis, Yudhvir Singh Charak, and Kyle Mayers.

Here are Naveen and Stoinis’s Performances

Naveen has claimed a total of 11 wickets in the IPL with an average of 19.91, notably securing six of them during the death overs (16-20). In T20 cricket overall, he has amassed an impressive tally of 189 wickets, averaging 23.87. On the other hand, Stoinis has taken 39 wickets in the IPL with an average of 29.44, including 9 wickets for LSG. His wickets are distributed across different phases of the innings, with 7 in the powerplay, 17 in the middle overs, and 15 in the death overs. In T20s, Stoinis has a total of 123 scalps at an average of 26.56.

Statistics of Uncapped Pacers

Left-arm bowler Mohsin has garnered 17 IPL wickets at an average of 17.88, all representing LSG. Notably, eight of his dismissals have occurred in the final overs of the innings. In T20 cricket overall, he has accumulated 61 wickets at an average of 17.26. Meanwhile, Thakur has secured 13 IPL wickets, with eight of them coming in the death overs. He boasts a total of 68 T20 wickets at an average of 15.89. Charak, owning three IPL wickets, has taken 17 wickets in T20s at an average of 35.11.

Mavi’s IPL Performance

All 30 of Mavi’s IPL wickets have been captured while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders, averaging 31.40. His contributions are spread across different phases of the game, with nine wickets each taken in the powerplay and middle overs, and 12 in the death overs. In T20 cricket overall, Mavi has secured 53 scalps at an average of 26.50. Meanwhile, Mayers has claimed 31 T20 wickets, averaging 36.77. Despite his performances in T20 cricket, Mayers is yet to secure a wicket in the IPL.

Debut IPL Deal for Shamar

Shamar, securing his first IPL contract, gained attention after his remarkable performance of 7 wickets for 68 runs against Australia in Brisbane last month. This outstanding display played a pivotal role in West Indies achieving their first Test victory over Australia since 2003. However, the pacer has yet to secure a wicket in his two T20 appearances.
