IPL Final: Robin Uthappa out early in Kolkata Knight Rider’s chase of 200 against Kings XI Punjab

Jun 1, 2014

In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014 final played between Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab, Gautam Gambhir and Manish Pandey were the batsmen out in the middle as L Balaji opened the bowling with Mitchell Johnson. Gambhir got off the mark with a boundary off the first ball. He then got two off the third delivery. KKR got to 19 for one after the second over.

Mitchell Johnson started proceedings, and Robin Uthappa greeted him with a boundary through covers. Johnson followed up with an inside edge. Uthappa went for a lofted drive off the fourth ball of the over, only to be caught by Akshar Patel at the 30-yard circle. The leading run-scorer of the IPL 7 was out in the first over in the final. Manish Pandey came in and got a boundary off the first ball he faced.

Earlier, Wriddhiman Saha’s brilliant ton took Kings XI Punjab to 199 for four in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014 final against Kolkata Knight Riders at Bangalore. Saha’s ton made up for a slow start and then helped Punjab setup a target of 200 for Kolkata. What is surprising is that in the total of 199, David Miller and Glenn Maxwell scored only one run between them.

Kolkata backed their strength when they won the toss and chose to bowl first. They came into this game unchanged, whereas Punjab brought back Lakshmipathy Balaji for Sandeep Sharma.

Saha moved into the 90s with a six off Narine in the penultimate over and then he smashed a four to get to 98. Saha got to his ton with a six over long-on to get it off 49 balls. In the last 10 overs, Punjab smashed 141 runs.
