Gautam Gambhir and Dinesh Karthik have helped Rest of India recover after R Vinay Kumar snared the top order early in the Irani Cup game at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore. Rest of India are 42 for three in 18 overs.
It has been a session dominated by the ball as the green track at the Chinnaswamy Stadium has helped the seamers tremendously. Skipper Vinay Kumar has been a star for the Karnataka and bowled unchanged for over an hour.
Getting movement off the pitch, Vinay trapped Jiwanjot Singh leg-before off the first ball of the game. Some time later, Baba Aparajith was also trapped in front as the ball hit him just under the knee-roll. Kedar Jadhav, the seasonâs highest run-scorer was also dismissed early as Vinay got through his defences and had him trapped on the back-leg.
With all that momentum on his side, Vinay was at the top of his mark and made the ball talk on the green surface. He almost had Dinesh Karthik as the ball moved outside the off-stump after pitching in line. Karthik flayed at it and the Karnataka team appealed vociferously. However, the umpire was unmoved and ruled it not out. Karthik was on two then.
After that initial burst, Rest of India stablised as Gautam Gambhir held firm and Karthik also gave him good company. They played within their zone and only attacked when the opportunity came by.
