Former South Africa skipper and dominating batter AB de Villiers who recently showcased his brilliant performance in the World Championship of Legends.

Recently, the former South Africa captain AB de Villiers described the Bronco Test as one of the toughest fitness drills he has ever experienced. The test was recently introduced in Indian cricket by strength and conditioning coach Adrian Le Roux, and it has started a lot of discussion about player fitness, endurance, and how it may affect team selection.

While speaking on his Youtube channel de Villiers said “I actually didn’t even know when the team told me about it. I said, ‘What is a Bronco Test?’ But when they explained it to me, I knew exactly what it was. I’ve been doing it ever since I was 16 years old,” de Villiers said. “Over here in South Africa, we call it the sprint repeat ability test.”

AB de Villiers, famous for his agility and top-level fitness during his career, admitted that the Bronco Test was so demanding that it often left him out of breath, particularly when he did it in South African conditions.

It’s one of the worst you can do,” he added. “I very clearly remember at the University of Pretoria, also at SuperSport Park, in the cold winter mornings of South Africa in particular, where there’s not a lot of oxygen. The altitude here is, I think, 1,500 meters above sea level. So, not a lot of oxygen, and those lungs would burn.”

The Bronco Test is a tough running drill where players sprint 20m, 40m, and 60m distances in sequence, and repeat this set five times without any rest, covering 1,200 metres in total. Unlike the Yo-Yo Test, which has short breaks, the Bronco Test is continuous and mainly measures a player’s stamina, heart-lung fitness, and ability to perform under heavy physical stress.
