Former India cricketer Yograj Singh slammed Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer for his careless dismissal in the IPL 2025 final, calling it a “criminal offence” that played a major role in their narrow six-run loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

In the thrilling IPL Final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, Royal Challengers Bengaluru won their maiden IPL trophy in the 18th season.

Batting at No. 4 after Prabhsimran Singh’s dismissal, Shreyas Iyer managed just one run from two balls before playing a poor shot off Romario Shepherd, resulting in a catch behind by Jitesh Sharma. The moment turned out to be crucial, as Punjab Kings eventually fell just six runs short of the target.

Speaking to ANI, Yograj went no-holds-barred. “The shot which Shreyas Iyer played in the final was a criminal offence, according to me. Ashok Mankad told me about this criminal offence, which comes under Section 302,” Yograj, father of two-time World Cup winner Yuvraj Singh, said.

“He also told me that the repercussions of this is that you will be banned for two matches. What Shreyas did yesterday is not acceptable. There is no apology for that,” added Yograj

Batting first RCB posted 190/9 after solid contributions from Virat Kohli (43), Rajat Patidar (26), and Jitesh Sharma (24). PBKS fought back with Shashank Singh’s unbeaten 61 and a quick 39 from Josh Inglis, but a tight bowling performance, led by Krunal Pandya (2/17), held them to 184/7.
