Australia have released Jackson Bird from the squad for the ongoing 2017-18 Ashes. Bird will play for Sydney Sixers for the seventh edition of BBL. On the other hand, Melbourne Stars will be without Peter Handscomb despite him being benched for the ongoing third Test at Perth. Handscomb can be in contention for the Boxing Day Test at Sydney. Bird will be providing support to Moises Henriques, who is returning after struggling with a groin injury earlier this month.

However, Sixers will be without Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon. Lyon is expected to return only for the last four rounds and the final, as reported by cricket.com.au. Sixers will play their first game against Sydney Thunder. Thunders also are in some conundrum, for they will miss contracted players Pat Cummins and Usman Khawaja. Other Test regulars who will not be part of BBL during the early stages are Mitchell Marsh, Shaun Marsh and Tim Paine.
