England fast bowler James Anderson has become the top-most ranked bowler in Test cricket according to the latest ICC rankings. This is the first time Anderson has topped the rankings after he played a major role in his side’s thumping of Sri Lanka in the 2nd Test match between them at Chester-le Street. England eventually won the match by 9 wickets. The right-arm pacer took figures of 3-36 Sri Lanka’s first innings and 5-58 in the second which helped him to go past his team-mate Stuart Broad and also ahead of India’s off-spin bowler Ravichandran Ashwin. Anderson is now 15 points clear off Broad and 13 points clear off Ashwin. ALSO READ: James Anderson: England’s inexhaustible hero for all seasons

Anderson had gone past Kapil Dev’s record of 434 Test scalps in the first Test at Headingley against the Lankans. He also won the Man of the match award for his impressive performance. He is now only the fourth England bowler to top the bowlers’ table since Ian Botham first achieved it in the year 1980. ALSO READ: James Anderson on fire, reaches 450th Test wicket

Ashwin has been ranked 2nd and Broad who also took 5 wickets in the 2nd Test is 3rd on the rankings. Anderson earned 30 points for his Man of the match performance when his side clinched the 3-Tests series 2-0 on Monday.

Anderson had ripped through the Sri Lankan batting in the first Test at Headingley too. He took 5 wickets then in the first innings and followed it up with another 5 wickets in the 2nd innings to make it 1-0 for England.
