James Taylor brought up his maiden One-Day International (ODI) century in 112 deliveries during the 3rd ODI between England and Australia at Old Trafford in Manchester on Tuesday. The right-handed batsman has been the pillar in the England innings so far, with the hosts reaching a score of 287 for 7 at the time of him reaching the landmark milestone. It also brings to an end Taylor’s agonizing wait for the magic score, after he was left stranded at 98 during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 fixture against the same opponents, the closest he has got to his maiden ton in the past. Australia are currently leading the five-match ODI series 2-0 after comfortable victories of margins of 59 and 64 runs in the first and second games at the Ageas Bowl (Southampton) and Lord’s respectively. Australia rode on half-centuries from the trio of skipper Steven Smith (70 off 87), Mitchell Marsh (64 off 31) and George Bailey (54 off 72) to finish on 309 for 7, their second 300-plus total in as many games. England were then led to a good start by the top-order, but crumbled shortly after Ben Stokes’s controversial dismissal in which he was adjudged out ‘obstructing the field’ while appearing to defend himself instinctively from a Mitchell Starc throw. Pat Cummins finished with figures of 4 for 56 after dismissing Morgan, who was the last batsman to be dismissed after scoring 85 off 87 balls.
