Mumbai: England batsman Jason Roy, who played a key role in team s victory against New Zealand in the warm up match of the ICC World Twenty20, says the side has taken massive confidence from the win. “I think yesterday s win was a huge win and the confidence we take from that [the win] is massive,” the 25-year-old player said here today ahead of the team s practice session at the Wankhede stadium. Roy had blasted a quickfire half century to guide England to a six-wicket win over New Zealand in a keenly-contested match as they chased a competitive 169 put on the board by the Kiwis. “It was a great start for myself and the team. Obviously it was good to put some stuff I ve been working on in practice into a match, always good to get out there and spend time with Halesy [Alex Hales] as well. I ve been enjoying the environment and working hard as well,” he said. When asked whether Liam Dawson was a third spin option for the side, he opined, “That s obviously an option for us. That s up to the captain and the coaches to decide. Obviously (Liam Dawson) Daws is a class bowler and is there if we need him but at the moment I think we are doing a good enough job.” On whether spin will play a big part in the tournament, Roy said, “well we are in India and usually the conditions here favour them so . . . it s tough because the first eight overs or so until the ball gets relatively old it does not actually deviate a huge amount, you obviously have to use your nous as a spinner so if we do need Daws [Liam Dawson] he is more than ready.” The Eoin Morgan led side take on a local team on Monday in another warm up match at the Brabourne stadium ahead of their tournament opener against West Indies to be played here on March 16.
