Jofra Archer, the Sussex all-rounder who has taken the world of T20 cricket by storm, may play for England in the 2019 World Cup and the 2019 Ashes, according to a report in The Times. Archer, born in Barbados, has already played for West Indies Under-19s. At this point he is eligible to play for West Indies but not England, his father’s country. England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) requires a seven-year residency qualification for overseas-born cricketers, during which they have to spend at least 210 days a year in UK.

However, the policy was put in action in 2012. It seems that ECB may want to change these regulations, presumably to accommodate Archer. ICC currently has a four-year residency qualification, and ECB may change their seven-year tenure to that. However, all 12 members of ECB need to agree on the change of rule.

Archer, 23, has made a huge impression for Sussex. He has played T20 cricket all around the globe, and became internationally recognised during his BBL stint with Hobart Hurricanes. He was signed up by Rajasthan Royals for IPL 2018 for a whopping INR 7.2 crores.
