Controversy struck the fifth and final match of the 2014 ODI series between England and Sri Lanka. Previously, off-Spinner Sachitra Senanayake was reported for a suspect action, and was under the scanner in this game.

England batted first, and were struggling at 199 for six in the 44th over, bowled by Sachithra Senanayake. The hero of the last match, Jos Buttler, was at the non-striker’s end as Chris Jordan faced. Buttler was backing up a long way outside the crease, and Senanayake promptly took the bails off. The Sri Lankans went up in unison as the umpire asked skipper Angelo Mathews whether or not he wanted to uphold the decision. Mathews said yes, and Buttler was on his way back to the pavilion.
