Australia fast bowlers Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins, who have not played a Test since the controversial series against South Africa this year, have been named in the ACT Comets squad for a Futures League match on Monday against Western Australia at Chisholm Oval in Canberra.

According to a report in ESPNCricinfo on Monday, the duo have regained fitness following back injuries which ruled them out of the series against Pakistan in the UAE. Australia are looking at fielding a strong pace for the home series against South Africa and the marquee Test series against India later in December.

If both pass their fitness test during the match, then they can be drafted for the three-match ODI series against South Africa which begins with the first one-dayer on November 4.

Hazlewood was named joined vice-captain along with Mitchell Marsh of the Test side.

If Mitchell Starc’s left hamstring also does turn out to be serious, then Australia can be in a strong position to field a three-pronged pace attack for their home series. Starc, who suffered tightness in his left hamstring in the second Test at Abu Dhabi, will remain with the side for the T20 series although it is doubtful that his services will be used.
