South Africa pacer Kagiso Rabada, has been fined 15 per cent of his match fees. He also lost 1 demerit point owing to an aggressive send-off Shikhar Dhawan during the sixth ODI, at Port Elizabeth. Rabada, in total, has 5 demerit points. He gained 3 during the Sri Lanka home series in early 2017 and added 2 more on the England tour. If Rabada adds 3 or more demerit points during the rolling 24-month period, he would be entitled to lose either 2 Tests; or 1 Test and 2 ODIs/T20Is; or 4 ODIs/T20Is, according to the itinerary.

The incident took place in the eighth over of the match. During Dhawan’s 23-ball 34, he took on Rabada and slammed a few boundaries off his bowling. This irked Rabada, who got rid of Dhawan off a short delivery. That dismissal prompted an aggressive send-off from Rabada, and Dhawan walked away without responding.

Rabada was booked under article 2.1.7 that relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batsman upon his/her dismissal during an International Match”.

India hammered South Africa by 73 runs in the match and sealed the series 4-1. India posted 274 for 7. In reply, South Africa managed only 201. This was India’s first ODI victory at the venue and maiden series win in South Africa.
