Kane Williamson’s ton keeps hope alive for New Zealand at lunch on Day 3

New Zealand batsman Kane Williamson scored his 11th century in Test cricket as New Zealand were 273 for the loss of seven at lunch on Day 3 of first Test against Australia at The Gabba in Brisbane on Saturday. Earlier, the Kiwi batsmen started the day on a steady note as the batsmen in the form of Williamson and BJ Watling brought up the 50-run stand for the sixth wicket as Williamson contributed 26 while Watling contributed 24 in the stand. However, it was at the score of 185 when Watling fell for 32 to Mitchell Johnson, who made him caught behind off his very first delivery of the day. As Watling walked out, it was Mark Criag who made his way in and along with Williamson brought up the 200 for New Zealand. Craig also looked comfortable with the bat, scoring occasional boundaries. There was a scare initially to Craig as well as there was a leg-before appeal against him turned down, but the DRS too went in favour of him. However, just when it looked good for him, an ambitious effort off Nathan Lyon’s delivery got him caught by Mitchell Marsh at mid-off for 24. Following his dismissal, it was Doug Bracewell who made his way in, as Williamson in the meantime struck his 11th Test century that came off 129 deliveries including 17 boundaries and that too after he smashes a couple of boundaries to Johnson in the scoring over. Both the batsmen batted out for the rest of the session as the Kiwis finished 273 for the loss of seven at lunch.
