Legendary cricketers like Kapil Dev, Viv Richards and Ricky Ponting will feature in Icons of Cricket golf tournament 2016. The two teams and names of cricketers who will play for them in this golf tournament were announced yesterday at the Sofitel Hotel  in Dubai. The two teams in the tournament will be— Australia and Rest of the World. Arguably the greatest spinner of all time Shane Warne will be vice-captain of Australian side which will have former cricketers like Ricky Ponting, Michael Hussey, Merv Hughes, Ian Healy, Mark Taylor, Michael Slater, Damien Martyn, Dean Jones, Greg Chappell, Allan Border and Greg Blewett. Former England batsman Michael Vaughan is named as vice-captain of the other team i.e. Rest of the World which shall consist of players like Viv Richards, Kevin Pietersen, Brendon McCullum, Brian Lara, Jacques Kallis, Mark Boucher, Darren Gough, Stephen Fleming, Kapil Dev, Ian Botham and Wasim Akram. Both the teams will be captained by two professional golfers. READ: Sachin Tendulkar is ‘so cool’, says golfer Tiger Woods

Founder and CEO of event organisers Iconique, Thomas Brookes was quoted by gulfnews.com saying, “I’m desperately excited to announce them as they are huge names but it’s been a challenge. Obviously I want an Australian captain so we have three or four big names to choose from and that’s under process. We’ve got the Rest of the World captain sorted. Both are on the same level as Fred and Darren, hopefully in the next two weeks we will announce on our website who they will be. We didn’t give ourselves enough time to prepare for April’s event, that’s why we are organising this one a year in advance to make sure the galleries are full. We’ll be working hard over the next 12 months to make sure the event is better publicised. This gives us enough time to engage with sponsors and spectators.” READ: Kapil Dev struggles at World Corporate Golf Challenge at Kuala Lampur

Shane Warne said, “We are going to touch up the Rest of the World and give them a smashing. Straight from the first tee there will be plenty of sledging to get our competitive juices flowing.” Meanwhile, Michael Vaughan added, “When you retire from cricket you go in search of that buzz you used to get, that’s why we all take up golf. We all think we can play like Rory McIlroy and Jason Day and hit it miles and hole putts under pressure, but now we’ll find out.”
