There was a lot of drama on Day One of the Round Two of the Ranji Trophy 2015-16 between defending champions Karnataka and Bengal. Karnataka who drew their first game against Assam, conceding three points jolted Bengal, who were playing their first game of the season with early wicekts but the drama began with the controversial wicket of Sreevats Goswami. It was Karnataka who won the toss and elected to field first. Just into the seventh over of the game, Bengal were in tatters at 26 for two when Goswami punched a length ball back to the bowler, Vinay Kumar. The Karnataka skipper had already had the two wickets to his name and was pumped and he threw the ball towards the stumps, spotting that Goswami was not inside his crease. The throw went wide though, Goswami who was lazy in his return to his crease. Did the part of grounding his bat in time, but when the throw came in, he was not facing the throw and had no idea about the direction of the throw. The ball hit the bat which the bat rise above the ground, his feet were in the air and the ball ricocheted onto the stumps. Vinay appealed for a run-out anyway. The on-field umpire naturally referred it upstairs. The third umpire, ruled it in the favour of the bowler. There were doubts though over the legality of the dismissal. The batsman Goswami must feel very unfortunate to have been dismissed in this manner since he had grounded his bat once and the bat twirling and losing contact from the ground was due to the impact with the ball.
