Karun Nair was all over the news when he scored 303 against England in December 2016. However, since then he hasn’t showcased a similar knock or even anything close to it. With the absence of Virat Kohli, Nair got a place in the team led by Ajinkya Rahane for the Afghanistan  Test. According to reports in TOI, Nair talked about how he excited to perform and win games for the team.

“It’s time we all moved on and looked ahead,” he said on Monday. “I am ready to get bigger scores… Not bigger scores, if I can get it again, it’ll be good but you’re not thinking of that, you’re just looking to perform for the team and win games for them.”

Nair played his last Test against Australia last year and India has played 12 Test matches since then. In his last Test series he had a high score of 26 runs which saw him out of the team. He has been a regular member of the India A squad but hasn’t really attracted eyeballs with his performances. This chance will be very crucial for him.

“I’m really excited to be given another opportunity. It has been a while now,” Karun admitted. “I have worked very hard over the last one-and-a-half years. I know that I have become better. You know that you’re going to get a few innings and you have to make the most of it,” he said. “It has been the case with everyone. If you settle down and keep making consistent scores then you have some breathing space.”

Nair also talked about how he has worked hard since the last two years.  ”I have become fitter. I have improved my skills over the last two years. I think I have done a lot and scoring runs in domestic cricket really helps. I have worked on my fielding and every aspect of the game. I know that I am a better batsman now than I was two years ago. I’d like to take that confidence into everything that I do,” he concluded.
