Kedar Jadhav has been ruled out of the ODI series, between India and Sri Lanka, due to hamstring injury. Tamil Nadu all-rounder Washington Sundar has been summoned to replace Jadhav.

Ahead of the first ODI at Dharamsala, there were reports that Jadhav had been struggling with fitness. With Virat Kohli already out due to personal reasons, Jadhav’s absence will hurt India further.

In 37 ODIs Jadhav has scored 797 runs at 41.9, including 2 hundreds and 3 fifties. He shot to fame during the first ODI between India and England at Pune, his home: he added 200 runs with Kohli and helped India chase down 351; he scored 120 off 76, receiving Player of the Match award.

Sundar, 18, was one of the star performers of Rising Pune Supergiant in the 10th edition of Indian Premiere League. Given his consistent performances in Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy, Sundar was named in the T20I squad against Sri Lanka. With one man down, he was given an early call.

India, however, have Manish Pandey, Shreyas Iyer, and Dinesh Karthik already in the squad to fill Jadhav’s void. Sundar will only be drafted in if there is a spinner-friendly track and India are in need of an all-rounder. There already are two quality wrist-spinners in Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav.
