Former Indian fast bowler and BJP candidate for Thiruvananthapuram constituency, Shanthakumaran Sreesanth failed to make it even to runners up in the Kerala Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Elections. The 33 year old has been out of the national side for almost five years now. He was also booked for spot-fixing in IPL 2013. After that, his career in Cricket pretty much ended as a ban was imposed on him immediately. Sreesanth had a career span of five years playing for the national side. He has played 53 ODIs, 27 Tests and 10 T20 Internationals taking 75, 87 and 7 wickets respectively. He was a part of inaugural T20 World Championship in 2007. He played for Kings XI Punjab before he was banned from playing Cricket.
Four ministers in the Oommen Chandy cabinet as well as the speaker and deputy speaker bit the dust as the Left Democratic Front swept the Kerala elections, winning 91 seats in the 140-member assembly. With the Congress-led United Democratic Front only retaining 47 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party opened its account in the state for the first time, the ministers who lost were Shibhu Baby John (labour), P.K.Jayalekshmi (scheduled tribes welfare), K.Babu (ports and excise), and K.P.Mohanan (agriculture).
Besides Speaker N.Sakthan and Deputy Speaker Palode Ravi (both Congress), government chief whip Thomas Unniyadan (Kerala Congress-Mani) also lost. (with inputs from IANS).
