In the 55th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Delhi Daredevils landed in further trouble after their best batsmen JP Duminy and Kevin Pietersen departed in quick succession to leave Delhi in tatters with the visitors being six down and their hopes of finding their elusive first win in the India leg of the IPL receiving a bigger dent. JP Duminy was out of Akshar Patel’s bowling where the ball took the toe edge of the bat and went high in the air and was safely taken by the fielder. Then Pietersen fell to the bowling of Rishi Dhawan rather unfortunately after replays showed that the ball was missing leg-stump in the replays.

Kevin Pietersen though, was in fine touch and was going from strength to strength out there in the middle and two gorgeous cover drives of Akshar Patel bore testament to that. Pietersen reached his first fifty of IPL 7 in what was a captain’s knock. KP has been looking good for the past few games and this was a well deserved knock. With Delhi’s best player JP Duminy at the crease, they would be banking on the duo to get to their first win in the India leg.

Earlier, Kevin Pietersen said at the toss that Delhi were looking to finish the campaign on a positive note. Punjab win the toss and elect to bowl, but Pietersen said that the Daredevils would have batted first anyway. Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Johnson, and Parwinder Awana came in for Punjab at the expense of Shaun Marsh, Beuran Hendricks and L Balaji, while Murali Vijay, Wayne Parnell and Siddharth Kaul missed out for Delhi.
