England batsman Kevin Pietersen recently announced he will retire by the end of 2018. Pietersen, who plays for Melbourne Stars in Big Bash League (BBL), confirmed this will be his last BBL season. Also, he mentioned that he will be done with all forms of cricket by the end of the year, after playing one more season of Pakistan Super League (PSL) and a season of Global T20 League in South Africa.

“I won’t be playing next season. I’m done,” Pietersen said after Stars’ defeat, as quoted by Sydney Morning Herald. You come to the end of your time and you get to a time in your career where you just think, Do I want this? . I want this desperately at the moment, but I don t think I ll want it in 10 months time, Pietersen said of his cricketing career.

I love Melbourne. To have some sort of (Stars) involvement going forward would be immense value for me. This franchise has been so good for me at the end of my career. I’ve loved every single day that I’ve been in Melbourne. I’ve been in the darkest of times in my career, and I’ve never, ever, ever not committed to trying to win,” Pietersen said of Melbourne Stars and winning more matches for them in the year.

Pietersen, originally from South Africa, represented England in international cricket in 104 Tests, 136 ODIs and 37 T20Is. He played his last match for England during the 2013-14 Ashes and was dropped for what England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) termed as ‘lack of trust’.
