England middle-order batsman Kevin Pietersen, who suffered a thumb injury before the final ODI against India at Kolkata, is likely to miss the one-off Twenty20 scheduled on Saturday at the same venue.

The right-handed batsman will have a fitness test on his broken thumb, and is considered to be “very doubtful” for England’s one-off T20.

“He will have a fitness test tomorrow. He is still very doubtful for Saturday,” a spokesperson for England was quoted by The Telegraph.

Pietersen had fractured his left thumb during the fourth one-dayer in Mumbai, which England lost by six wickets.

“Scans have revealed Pietersen has a fractured left thumb after being struck while fielding during the second innings of Sunday’s match,” England and Wales Cricket Board release said.
