Kevin Pietersen’s BBL career is in doubt

Kevin Pietersen, the controversial former England captain and one of the great batsman of present era might not play the Australian domestic T20 tournament, Big Bash League (BBL) 2014. The ongoing feud between the two parties had led to speculation the England and Wales Cricket Board ECB could refuse to issue Pietersen with a No Objection Certificate (NOC), which would curtail his involvement in BBL, where he represents the Melbourne Stars. Sources form ECB, also confirmed this possibility.

Upon his sacking from the England squad earlier this year, Pietersen signed a confidentiality agreement with the ECB which expired last week, and the former captain told the UK-based Telegraph the content of his autobiography, to be released this week, will “set the record straight” between himself and England cricket’s governing body, bigbash.com.au reported.

A similar situation occurred earlier this year with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) suspending allrounder Shakib Al Hasan from all forms of competitive cricket, thus ending Shakib’s plans to play in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). And while Pietersen is no longer employed by the ECB, BBL Executive General Manager Mike McKenna confirmed that he would nonetheless require the correct paperwork to take his place with the Stars.

“We are looking forward to Kevin playing in the BBL and expect him to generate significant excitement at Melbourne Stars matches this summer with his skill and personal style. We can’t predict the content of his book or the reaction of the ECB but can confirm that KP will require a No Objection Certificate from his home board before we can allow him to participate in the BBL,” McKenna said.
