Khulna Titans have set a target of 134 in their first innings thanks to Abdul Hasan Raju’s impressive five for 20 against Rajshahi Kings in the Match three of the Bangladesh Premier League 2016-17 which is being played at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka. Winning the toss first, Mahmudullah lead Khulna Titans decided to bat first against the Darren Sammy lead Rajshahi Kings as the wicket seemed to be very conducive to batting. They did lose their opener Nicholas Pooran early in the game but Riki Wessles who walked in at No. 3 stabilised the innings in a neat manner to some extent. Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2016: Points Table and Team Standings

Initially, the Titans started off on a decent note as both their openers Pooran and Abdul Majid were being cautious against the pace attack from the Kings, but seeing that both batsmen were far too easy against fast bowlers, Sammy deployed spin by handing over the ball to the Bangladeshi wonder kid Mehedi Hasan. This change was quickly rewarded as Hasan removed Pooran who was the attacking batsmen of the both. But Wessels who walked in at No. 3 got off to an attacking start and was seen hitting big shots with moments of his arrival. Both Wessel and Majid made a 47 runs partnership from 6.3 overs.

When the first wicket fell, Khulna Titans had just 18 runs on the board, but with the 47 runs partnership they had reached to the score of 65 and it looked like both these batsmen would go all the way till the end with the way they were batting. But Abdul Hasan struck completely against the run of play as Wessel tried to play his favourite shot reverse sweep but ended up holing an easy catch to Umar Akmal. This seemed like the inception of the spree of losing wickets for the Titans. From65 for the loss of 1 wicket, they were pulled down to 72 runs for the loss of 4 wickets of opener Majid, and Shuvagata Hom joined Wessel in no time.

The good thing for the Titans was that they had their skipper Mahmudullah at the crease who has enough experience of playing the highest level of cricket and he has been in such tricky situations before as well. The skipper applied all his experience and started scoring runs. He had Alok Kapali at the other end. These both had around 8 overs i.e 48 balls in their hands and they had to make sure that their team reached a competitive total by the end of 20 overs. But again the inconsistency factor came into play for the Khulna Titans as Adul Hasan Raju removed first Mahmudullah and then Alok Kapali in consecutive balls in almost same fashion. He had earlier dropped Kapali off Sammy s bowling the previous over!

Since then, the Titans never looked like taking off as their entire batting team had walked back to the dugout without bothering the scorer as they eventually reached a total of in 20 overs.

Brief Scores:
