West Indies explosive middle-order batsman Kieron Pollard played one gem of an innings, as it was his all-important knock of 67, that allowed the hosts to register a clinical four-wicket win over visitors South Africa, in the first One-Day International (ODI) at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Friday. Earlier, South Africa skipper AB de Villiers won the toss and elected to bat first, as the Proteas were bowled out for a paltry total of 188, courtesy of a six-wicket haul from the West Indian mystery spinner Sunil Narine for just 27. Rilee Rossouw was the highest scorer from South Africa for 61. FULL CRICKET SCORECARD: West Indies vs South Africa, West Indies Tri-Nation Series, 1st ODI at Guyana

West Indies were off to a steady start as with 37 opening runs on the board, it was Andre Fletcher, who fell for mere 11 to Imran Tahir, after being bowled up in the 12th over. With just 15 runs added to the total, it was his fellow opener Johnson Charles, who fell for a fair 31 to the same man in a similar fashion in the 18th over. And soon to follow him after a run was veteran Marlon Samuels, who fell for a mere single to Aaron Phangiso, after being trapped leg before in the very next over.

It was followed by a brief 23-run stand between Darren Bravo and wicketkeeper-batsman Denesh Ramdin, before Ramdin fell at the score of 76 in the 16th over to JP Duminy, after being caught by de Villiers. However, it was the steady and all-important 74-run stand between Bravo and Pollard, that allowed West Indies to build a good platform for the win. It was at the score of 150, when Bravo fell for a fair 30 to Phangiso, after being trapped leg-before, while Pollard scored his half-century off 45 deliveries, including a boundary and five sixes, along with a strike rate of 105.
