After the double strike from left-arm spinner Akshar Patel, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were pegged back and Karandeep Singh’s 12th over only produced six singles despite two big-hitting batsmen at the crease. Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) were on top and and slash to third man by Yusuf brought a much needed boundary for the home side. The batsman and the bowler had friendly exchange and Johnson came back with a good inswinger that wrapped Yusuf on the pads.

Earlier, George Bailey won the toss and elected to field first. Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) went in with the same team. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) made just the one change, as leg-spinner Piyush Chawla came in to the side at the expense of R Vinay Kumar. Glenn Maxwell, sporting a clean-shaven look, said that KXIP were only looking at going match-by-match at this point.

Robin Uthappa and Manish Pandey were dismissed  by Akshar Patel for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014 Qualifier 1. After having Uthappa play a lofted chip shot early in the over, Patel induced an inside edge and Pandey was bowled. Yusuf Pathan and Shakib al Hasan were the new men in for KKR
