Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman will not be a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2026. The BCCI had instructed KKR to release the Bangladeshi pacer, following which KKR decided to release him. Kolkata stated that they acted on the instructions of the BCCI.

KKR official statement on Mustafizur Rahman’s release

KKR officially announced this on Saturday. In a statement, the franchise said, “Kolkata Knight Riders confirms that the IPL regulator, BCCI-IPL, has instructed the team to release Mustafizur Rahman ahead of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).” KKR added, “Following due process and consultation, the player has been released as per the instructions of the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

Last month, during the player auction, KKR acquired left-arm fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman for Rs 9.20 crore. His base price was Rs 2 crore. After a fierce bidding war with Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals, KKR successfully added the 30-year-old Bangladeshi bowler to their squad. The BCCI has stated that KKR will be allowed to select a replacement player if needed.

BCCI secretary Devjit Saikia said on Saturday that the BCCI has asked Kolkata Knight Riders to release Mustafizur Rahman from their team, and if needed, they can request to select another player in his place. If they make such a request, the BCCI will allow them to add another player to their squad.
