Kumar Sangakkara has become the fastest to score 11,000 Test runs and scored his maiden triple hundred against Bangladesh on Day two of the second Test against Bangladesh at Chittagong on Wednesday. Sangakkara broke numerous records during his marathon innings. Sangakkara was on 273 when he reached he 11,000-run club. He scored it in his 208th innings, faster than all the others above him.

  • Sangakkaa’s innings is the highest in Bangladesh and also against Bangladesh overall. Marlon Samuels held the record of the highest in Bangladesh with 260 in 2013 and Ramnaresh Sarwan had the highest score against Bangladesh, 261 not out at Jamaica in 2004.


  • Sangakkara has hit the most number of sixes (8) by a Sri Lankan in a Test innings. The previous best was six sixes by Sanath Jayasuriya.


  • Sangakkara has the second most number of double centuries (9), just two behind Don Bradman and Brian Lara who have scored 11 double tons each.


  • This is Sangakkara’s third 250+ score, equalling Javed Miandad and Brian Lara. Only Don Bradman and Virender Sehwag have more 250+ score doing it on five and four occasions respectively.


  • Sangakkara has eclipsed his previous best score of 287 against South Africa in 2006.
