Sri Lanka veteran Kumar Sangakkara on Tuesday became the third highest run-scorer in One-Day Internationals (ODIs), surpassing compatriot Sanath Jayasuriya on his way to 76 against New Zealand in the fourth ODI at Nelson.

Sangakkara facd 83 balls and slammed eight fours and a six to achieve the feat in his glittery career. During the innings, he was also involved in a 67-run partnership with Mahela Jayawardene.

Sangakkara now has 13,490 runs in 394 ODIs, and is only behind India’s Sachin Tendulkar and Ausralian Ricky Ponting in the list of all time highest run-scorers in the 50-over format. In 394 ODIs, Sangakkara has an average of 40.63, and has scored 20 centuries and 92 half-centuries.

According to AFP, Sangakkara, who ignited the Sri Lankan run rate after a slow start, became the third most prolific ODI batsman moving his career total to 13,490 runs. In his 83-ball knock the classy left-hander overtook fellow Sri Lankan Sanath Jayasuriya (13,430) to sit 214 behind Australian Ricky Ponting on a list headed by Indian great Sachin Tendulkar who amassed 18,426 runs. Jayawardene is fifth on the all-time list with 12,472.

It is believed that the left-handed batsman will call it quits from ODI cricketer after the completion of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. Here’s the list of the top 10 run-scorers in the format:
