Sri Lanka‘s explosive batsman Kusal Perera will be out of the Zimbabwe due to the hamstring injury that he picked up during ICC Champions Trophy earlier this month. Perera was one of the stars of Sri Lanka’s win over India at The Oval. He sustained the injury in the same game and had to walk out retired hurt for 44. In the previous match, he struck an unbeaten 47 against South Africa. Sri Lanka could not get his service for the must-win game against Pakistan. The southpaw was replaced in the squad by Dhananjaya De Silva.

Sri Lanka’s campaign met a group-stage hiatus after their loss to Pakistan. The 26-year-old was not included in the squad for the first 2 ODIs against Zimbabwe. Sri Lankan skipper Angelo Mathews had said, “Kusal Perera is out for the whole series. The physiotherapist says it is 8 to 12 weeks if I am not mistaken. He’s also ‘touch & go’ for the Indian series as well so we will have to closely monitor him.” Mathews said prior to the start of the Zimbabwe series.”

This is not the first time Perera suffered a similar injury. He was ruled out of the ODI series against Bangladesh earlier this year due to a similar hamstring injury. However, he recovered to take part in the T20Is. Sri Lanka take on Zimbabwe at Galle on Friday for the first ODI.
