Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s coverage of the fourth opening ceremony of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 at Holkar Stadium, Indore, ahead of the contest between Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS). Prior to this, the opening ceremonies were held before the first game between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Hyderabad followed by the second game between RPS and Mumbai Indians (MI) at Pune and the third game between Gujarat Lions and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Rajkot. So far, all the opening ceremonies have failed to pull the crowd as many empty seats were witnessed during the functions. Amy Jackson kicked off the opening ceremony at Hyderabad, whereas Riteish Deshmukh and Tiger Shroff performed at Pune and Rajkot respectively. Thus far, it looks like BCCI’s plan to pull in more crowd by organising the opening ceremonies has failed miserably. For the fourth opening ceremony, Bollywood actress Disha Patni, famous for portraying MS Dhoni’s first love in his biopic ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story”, will be performing at Holkar Stadium in Indore. It is the first afternoon match of the season and will begin at IST 4 PM. The opening ceremony, thus, will begin at IST 2:30 PM under the scorching sun.
Apart from Disha Patni, Bollywood singer Harshdeep Kaur is also going to enthrall the audiences. Barring the opening ceremonies, all three games that have been played so far have been exciting. SRH won the opening game against RCB by 35 runs, whereas RPS saw their skipper Steven Smith guiding them to a comfortable 7-wicket victory over MI, hitting two sixes in the final over. The third game between GL and KKR saw highest ever opening stand in the history of IPL, as Chris Lynn and Gautam Gambhir pummelled the GL bowlers to add 184 runs in just 89 balls.
Coming to the fourth game between KXIP and RPS, this clash is definitely going to yield fireworks. Indore has been renowned for producing high-scoring games and with the presence of power-hitters in both the camps, the Indoris, who will have to bear with the opening ceremony, will be in for a treat when the actual match starts.
