Former Indian Premier League commissioner Lalit Modi has backed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) saying that the government s interference into sports bodies could be unwarranted.

On a debate show on Times Now, Modi came out in full support of the BCCI and even defended it against the charges that have been made by sports minister Ajay Maken.

The sports minister argued his case by saying that the BCCI has to be more transparent, and it can t have a separate yardstick, The Times of India reported.

But Modi like the BCCI deemed the government interference unwarranted, a surprising boost to the BCCI case but an unrelenting sports minister wants to assure they can’t rest easy.
