Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has decided to name Lasith Malinga as the Sri Lankan T20 captain till the year 2015, while batsman Lahiru Thirimanne has been named Vice Captain in all formats of the game.
According to a report in the official Interntational Cricket Council (ICC) website, Angelo Mathews will stay the captain for the Test and One Day International (ODI) teams, while Malinga will take over from Dinesh Chandimal as T20 captain till March 2015.
Chandimal captained the side for 12 T20Is, till he was suspended for one match due to slow over rate during the recently concluded 2014 ICC World T20 in Bangladesh. He chose to stay out for the rest of the tournament, and Malinga was named captain in his stead. Left-handed batsman Lahiru Thirimanne has been named the Vice Captain for all formats.
Sri Lanka will tour the United Kingdom in May for two ODIs against Ireland, and five ODIs, one T20 and two Tests against England.
