Match 40 of IPL 2019 has begun with Delhi Capitals opting to field against hosts Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

Here is the action from the first six overs of Powerplay, at the end of which RR were 52/1.

DELHI STRIKE AN EARLY BLOW

The first wicket fell in the second over, as Ajinkya Rahane stopped in his tracks even as Sanju Samson was halfway down the pitch. Seeing Rahane stick out a hand after he worked the ball towards midwicket, Samson turned and sprinted back to the non-striker’s end but even a full length dive could not save him.

Running across the pitch, Kagiso Rabada collected the ball, turned and hit the stumps with a terrific direct hit. With that wicket, DC were 5/1 in 1.1 overs.

SMITH MAKES A SHAKY START

Rajasthan captain Steve Smith missed scoring off three successive deliveries from Ishant Sharma, and then off the next ball punched just wide of a diving Rabada at mid-on to get four. Off the fifth ball of Ishant’s over, Smith swung to the leg side and got three runs.

RAHANE GETS A LIFE ON 16

Second ball of the fifth over bowled by left-arm spinner Axar Patel, Rahane got down and swiped across the stumps. The ball ballooned to Ishant at short fine leg and he made a mess of a simple catch. To the next ball, Rahane advanced and lofted six over long-off. To the third, he swept over Ishant for four.

In the sixth over, bowled by Rabada, Rahane again charged out and this time hit the South African fast bowler back over his head for six. Then he glanced four more to raise RR’s 50 on the board in 5.4 overs.
