    TOSS: Afghanistan elect to bat

Hello, good morning and welcome to CricketCountry’s live cricket blog and updates’ post from 18th match of ICC Intercontinental Cup 2015-16-17 between Afghanistan and Ireland. I, Paulami Chakraborty, will be bringing you the live cricket scores and updates from this game being played at Greater Noida Sports Complex Ground. Afghanistan is currently high on confidence after their whitewash win in T20Is and then ODI series win over Ireland in Greater Noida, which has been given to Afghanistan by BCCI as their home venue. Looking at the points table, Afghanistan are at second spot with three wins from four matches, whereas Ireland are at the top with four wins from four matches.

Both Ireland and Afghanistan are yet to lose a match in this tournament. And the only match which Afghanistan could not win was their first match of the tournament against Scotland in June 2015. This will be the first First-Class match between two international teams at this venue. The ODIs and T20Is saw a healthy number of fans coming in support of Afghanistan, whereas Ireland got very few fans at the venue. But to compensate for the same, Larry the leprechaun will be present at the venue to cheer for Ireland.

For those who do not know about Larry the leprechaun, his real name is Adrian Raftery and is a lecturer in a university in Australia for Taxation. During the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, he used to come out as ‘Larry the leprechaun’ sporting a fake beard, long Irish hat and a traditional Irish attire. He is basically an Irish-Australian as his parents came Down Under in the 1970s as skilled migrants.

With such big Irish fan making his presence at the venue, one can expect a thrilling contest between these two sides competing for Test status.
