Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live coverage of Day 3 of the first of the three-match Test series between Australia and New Zealand at The Gabba in Brisbane, this is Ayush Gupta and Vishal Mehra and we would be bringing you all the live updates from this game. Following a mammoth first innings of 556 for the loss of four wickets, Australia are comfortably in the driving seat in this opening game. While New Zealand are in all trouble, having lost their five wickets for just 157 on Day 2 as they stare at a possible follow-on from the Aussies. What would turn out on Day 3? Warner quickly caught up to Burns. Century batsman from the first innings Usman Khawaja comes in to bat. Australia lead by 488.

James Neesham has give 61 runs in his 9 overs. Australia lead New Zealand by 412. Play may start soon.

Burns and Warner have slowed down the scoring rate. This is also the first time ever an opening partnership have had 2 consecutive 100 and 150 run stand for Australia cricketing histor. The light in the stadium has gone fairly low as storm clouds rush in.

Burns has managed to outscore Warner and will want to make  hundred after missing out in the first innings. Warner on the other hand is playing calm and composed but can anytime power up. Australia’s lead nears 400.

Australia gets past 100 as Warner and Burns notch up another 100 run stand. Australia’s lead has now extended to 348. Joe Burns has now scored 4 consecutive half- centuries for Australia. Australia has been scoring at a good run rate. Burns is also close to his fifty as Australia near the 100 run mark. Mark Craig has come into the attack for the first time in this inning.This could be a second 100 run partnership of Warner and Burns after a 150+ runs stand in the first innings.

Australia’s lethal left-arm double act Mitchell Starc and Mitchell Johnson showed how devastating they can be in the series after bowling the home side into a strong position after just two days of the first Test against New Zealand. Starc and Johnson took two wickets each as the Black Caps battled to survive at 157 for five in reply to Australia’s massive 556 for four declared. It was the first outing for the pace pair this southern summer and they didn’t disappoint with fearsome spells to unhinge the Kiwi batting, taking 4-16 in a 25-ball spell, reports AFP.
