Ola! Welcome to CricketCountry’s live coverage of the match between Australia and New Zealand, Match No. 17 of Super 10 stage, ICC World T20 2016 at Dharamsala. I’m Devarchit Varma and I’ll be bringing you all the live updates of the match. While it is the opening match of Australia’s campaign, it is New Zealand’s second match of World T20 2016. New Zealand are favourites to win this match after their spectacular show against hosts India in the opening match of World T20 2016 at Ngapur where they bowled out India to 79, thereby winning the contest by 47 runs, which was surely a huge margin. Defeating the top-ranked side in their den surely gave the required boost to the Black Caps. LIVE CRICKET SCORECARD: Australia vs New Zealand, ICC T20 World Cup 2016 Match 17, Dharamsala

So, New Zealand remain at the top of the second group, with 4 points and a Net Run Rate of + 1.38. They are followed by Pakistan, Australia, India and Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup 2016 points table. Talking about the game, New Zealand’s total of 142/6 did not look challenging enough, but they bowled really well on an extremely slow wicket, and trumped Australia by 8 runs. The passage of overs 6-12 ended Australia’s chances, wherein they lost the plot. They were 50 for 1 after 6 overs, and 71 for 71 for 4 after 12.

Anyway, Kiwis minus Brendon McCullum march on. Let’s see how far they travel, but these two wins make them strong contender for the first spot in semi-final! Here is Sakshi Gupta telling you what New Zealand did to trump Australia, and we will come up with few analysis pieces as well. See you in the second game for tonight: battered England taking on a refreshed South Africans.

New Zealand started as if they wanted to score 200+, they were 61 for no loss in 6 overs. But Australia clawed their way back into the contest, and restricted the Kiwis to a modest 142 for 8. The Kiwis openers are out there on the field. Here begins their first-ever T20I in an ICC tournament, and the first since 2010. Quite a gap!

TOSS UPDATE: New Zealand win toss, elect to bat first.

Playing XI:

Australia: Usman Khawaja, Shane Watson, Steven Smith (c), David Warner, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Marsh, James Faulkner, Peter Nevill (wk), Ashton Agar, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Adam Zampa.

New Zealand: Martin Guptill, Kane Williamson (c), Colin Munro, Corey Anderson, Ross Taylor, Grant Elliott, Mitchell Santner, Luke Ronchi, Adam Milne, Mitchell McClenaghan, Ish Sodhi

New Zealand’s huge gamble of leaving their most experienced bowlers—Trent Boult and Tim Southee out of their fixture against India worked as the three spinners, Ish Sodhi, Mitchell Santner and Natahn McCullum did the job for them. Australia is in the same situation with their spinners, Adam Zampa and Ashton Agar being as inexperienced on the Indian soils. However, Australia’s strength clearly lies in their batting with the likes of David Warner, Aaron Finch, Steven Smith, Glenn Maxwell and Shane Watson filling in the side.

On the other hand, the Black Caps will be worried about their batting line-up after they witnessed a collapse against the Indian bowling attack. The likes of Kane Williamson, Martin Guptill, Grant Elliot and Colin Munro who have been in excellent forma before the World T20 were dismissed for a single digit. On the other hand, Corey Anderson and Ross Taylor who lasted at the crease for a longer time did not manage to go at the required rate and eventually ended up wasting a lot of deliveries. The New Zealanders will want to introspect these struggles before entering the field at Dharamsala on Friday.

Squads:

New Zealand: Kane Williamson (c), Corey Anderson, Trent Boult, Grant Elliott, Martin Guptill, Mitchell McClenaghan, Nathan McCullum, Adam Milne, Colin Munro, Henry Nicholls, Luke Ronchi (wk), Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor

Australia: Steven Smith (c), David Warner, Ashton Agar, Nathan Coulter-Nile, James Faulkner, Aaron Finch, John Hastings, Josh Hazlewood, Usmain Khawaja, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Peter Nevill(wk), Andrew Tye, Shane Watson, Adam Zampa
