Mitchell Marsh 136(151)

Heart-break for Peter Nevill as he gets out in the last over of the day but what a day it has been for Australia. Marsh still looks solid as ever and sitting on a pretty 136 will want to continue on his merry way before Australia unleash their bowling on Essex who for some reason wanted to bowl first.

OUT! Peter Nevill c substiture b Ryder 78(113)

Live Cricket Score: Australia 380/5 | Overs 80

Peter Nevill 50(82) Mitchell Marsh 106(123)

Mitchell Marsh continues to stake a claim for a place in the eleven for the first Test at Cardiff as he brings up his ton, which came off a huge six off the bowling of Aron Nijjar. Peter Nevill has also scored a fifty.

Live Cricket Score: Australia 232/5 | Overs 73

Peter Nevill 30(61) Mitchell Marsh 77(102)

Essex continue their luckless day as Mitchell Marsh nears his ton. This has been a superb knock from him, finding boundaries and batting at ease. Peter Nevill too seemed to have settled down at the other end.

Live Cricket Score: Australia 290/5 | Overs 60

Peter Nevill 6(15) Mitchell Marsh 58(69)

Neville and Mitchell Marsh are out to continue their innings. Marsh has brought up his fifty and has looked aggressive. Australia will wish at least he converts this start. Essex will wish to strike and get into the Australian tail as early as possible.

Live Cricket Score: Australia 275/5 | Overs 58 – Tea

Peter Nevill 6(15) Mitchell Marsh 44(58)

Another fine session for Australia. The runs have not been an issue for them but the wickets have been. They have got starts but have not been able to convert those.  Essex might rue their decision to put Australia into bat if this total gets out of hands.

Live Cricket Score: Australia 254/5 | Overs 54

Peter Nevill 0(6) Mitchell Marsh 29(37)

Adam Voges missed out on his fifty and was run out on 49. Marsh has looked good at the other end and started particularly very well putting the bad balls away.

OUT! Adam Voges run out 49(99)

Live Cricket Score: Australia 205/4 | Overs 41

Adam Voges 28(69) Mitchell Marsh 1(1)

Shane Watson gets out just after scoring his fifty. He looked good and batted at a brisk pace. And as he gets out, his possible replacment comes out to bat, Mitchell Marsh!

OUT! Shane Watson bowled ten Doeschate 52(50)!

Live Cricket Score: Australia 200/3 | Overs 39

Adam Voges 27(63) Shane Watson 49(45)

Shane Watson is starting to grow in confidence as he settles at the crease. He is finding the boundaries at regular intervals.  He has brought up his fifty and it will only make the selection more interesting. Voges has been content to bat normally at the other end.

Live Cricket Score: Australia 150/3 | Overs 31

Adam Voges 17(45) Shane Watson 10(15)

Play underway after Lunch, both Voges and Watson are batting for Australia and will wish to stitch together a big stand. Watson has hit a couple of boundaries so far in his short stint. He will be under some pressure.

Live Cricket Score: Australia 135/3 | Overs 28 – Lunch

Adam Voges 14(36) Shane Watson 2(6)

David Warner  gets out trying to steer a ball to third man but finds Ravi Bopara at  third slip. He misses out on his ton and will be disappointed with that particular effort. Shane Watson is the new man in. A fine session for Australia, after being put into bat, they have scored plenty of runs in the session, thanks to the knock from Warner. Watson is competing with Mitchell Marsh for a place and will wish to bat and get a big score under his belt.

OUT! David Warner c Ravi Bopara b Jamie Porter 94(86)

Live Cricket Score: Australia 85/2 | Overs 20

Adam Voges 2(16) David Warner 60(64)

David Warner has scored his fifty and it has come in quick time. Voges is giving him good support and Australia will wish both of them bat for a long time to steady Australia.

Live Cricket Score: Australia 61/2 | Overs 15

Adam Voges 0(4) David Warner 39(46)

Twin strikes for Tom Moore have have dented the Australians. Chris Rogers was out edging one behind to the keeper James Foster. The shock came for the Australians when Moore had Clarke caught be ten Doeschate.

OUT! Chris Rogers c James Foster b Tom Moore 21(40)!

OUT! Michael Clarke c ten Doeschate b Tom Moore 0(1)!

Live Cricket Score: Australia 44/0 | Overs 10

Chris Rogers 15(30) David Warner 28(31)

Runs continue to flow for Australia as both the Australian openers are finding the gaps and scoring runs at will. Jesse Ryder had opened the attack from the other end for Essex. One wonders why Essex put Australia in to bat.

Live Cricket Score: Australia 9/0 | Overs 1

Chris Rogers 1(1) David Warner 8(5)

An expensive start from Porter who concedes nine runs in the first over of the match. David Warner has got going with couple of boundaries. Chris Rogers gets off the mark with a single as well.

Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live blog of the first day of the tour match between the Essex and the Australians at Chelmsford on Wednesday. Australians beat Kent in their previous warm-up tie as they trashed them by massive 255 runs. Read: Australia dent Kent with massive 255-run win in Ashes build-up

Mitchell Claydon played a lovely cameo to give the Kent fans something to cheer about, but Steven Smith snared three wickets in the second innings as Australia won by a humongous 255 runs. With this being the final warm-up tie before the first Ashes Test gets underway in Cardiff on July 8, the Australians would definitely want to finish this game as well on a high and head into the series with the upper hand considering their good form at the present and that could well mean tough times for England.
